I just learned last night, as I was coming up for air from working on a new novel (just long enough to figure out where the dinner party I was going to was), that there is a terrific book blogging marathon going on this weekend called Bloggiesta. The drill, if I understand it correctly, is to make a to-do list of the things you know you need to do with your book blog but have been shirking do to lake of time, lack of ideas, or pure befuddlement – and to support each other in getting them done. So here’s my list, and since I’m late coming to the party I’m going to try to get it all done today. Ole! – Meg
1. Figuring Out How to Spread the News: I do get blog stats through google analytics and I’m registered on Technoratti, but I have no idea beyond that what one does for blog outreach. So my biggest goal for today is to figure out at least three ways to extend my audience. Please, please, please share suggestions below!
2. Line up at least one Poet for April: since April is National Poetry Month, I’m going to try to do a Poetry Tuesday every week. But since I’ll also be on the road promoting The Four Ms. Bradwells, I need to get the posts set up early.
3. All-True Story of How a Novel Gets Published post: I haven’t done one of these posts in an embarrassingly long time, and there’s been a lot going on.
4. Guest Author Posts: Line up a guest author to post for my last open week in the March.
5. Tidy and Update My Sidebar
6. Do a Post that Will be Helpful to Other Bloggers
7. Try to get Comment Luv Working
8. New background: This one is actually a little out of my hands, but in redoing my author website we are also redoing the look of the blog, changing the colors a little and adding a new background. For this one, I’m relying on the amazing Ilsa Brink. But will also understand if she wants to take Sunday off. She’s been working awfully hard on the site remodel.
Postscript: That was amazingly helpful! I spent a lot of the day Sunday housekeeping and visiting other blogs, and as of Wednesday had completed seven of eight tasks I set for myself. Now for that dreaded first task, which I still haven’t conquered – or even begun.
