I’ve been using social media interfacing software for some time to organize my twitter engagement because it allows me to, for example, schedule a tweet about a friend’s reading–so I don’t forget to do it! I started with Tweetdeck, and later switched to Hootsuite. I thought I might upgrade to the paid version and put all my social media in one organized place. But I did a little poking around first, and have changed my mind. Here’s why:
Hubspot, which I’ve found to be an amazing font of information about online engagement, did a somewhat informal study which suggests that Facebook Content Published Via Third-Party Tools Suffers 67% Fewer Likes. Basically, the Facebook algorithm appears to penalize post entered using a third party app.
More recent posts suggest that Twitter had also begun to interface differently with third party aps in order to encourage people to use their own platform (and see their own ads).
Tweetdeck is owned by Twitter, so I’m hoping it works without penalty for tweets. Bottom line for me: I’ll return to Tweetdeck for scheduling tweets (a tweet seen by fewer folks is better than no tweet at all even if there is a penalty there). But I’ll keep posting directly on facebook.
If you have other information on this, please share it, as I’d sure like to have all my social media in one easy place! – Meg
